Quilt Documentation and Appraisals

Minnesota has a rich and abundant quilting heritage. Over the past 20 years, the Minnesota Quilt Project (MQP), a standing committee of Minnesota Quilters, Inc., has been documenting quilts and interviewing quilters to preserve this history for future generations. Documenting includes photographing each quilt and recording details such as block size, fabrics used, pattern name and type as well as information about the quilt’s origin, maker, and owner. MQP will continue this process by documenting quilts during certain time slots at the Show. You MUST make a documentation appointment for this service. MQ charges no fee for the documentation of the quilt. Information that we collect is kept at the MQ office and will eventually be available to researchers through an on-line index.

MQP will provide appraisal services by appointment. An appraisal is a valuation in which the appraiser considers a diverse number of factors and analyzes them in written form. These factors include the purpose of the appraisal, the market in which the quilt is being valued, the market in which you purchased the quilt, the market in which you may want to sell the quilt, the type of valuation applied, and the valuation approach that the appraiser used. At the end of the appraisal, the appraiser will provide you with an insurance value, fair market value, or donation value for your quilt. MQ charges a $35.00 fee for the appraisal of each quilt, payable at the time of the appraisal.

You may make an appointment to have your quilt documented or to have your quilt appraised at the 2010 show in any one of three ways:

You must request all appointments by May 22, 2010. All quilts, old or new, are eligible. MQ limits these services to a maximum of three quilts unless otherwise approved. MQ will hold documentations on Wednesday and appraisals on Thursday and Friday. MQ will mail out appointment confirmations by June 1, 2010.
