Minnesota
Quilter's, Inc. Quilter of the Year for 2009:
Sharlene Jorgenson
Minnesota Quilters, Inc. is proud to announce that Shar Jorgenson is
our 2009 Quilter of the Year. Over the last number of years Shar has
been both teacher and vendor at many of the MQ Shows. Her accomplishments
are many and we are happy to say she is truly a Minnesota Treasure.
A veteran quilter of 24 years,
Shar Jorgenson is a familiar face
to thousands of television viewers. Her PBS television series, Quilting
with Shar, brings innovative techniques to quilt makers of all skill
levels. Her enthusiasm, down-to-earth style, and extensive experience
guide viewers through the steps of creating beautiful quilts, quickly
and easily with today’s tools. In 1988, Shar created her first
set of laser cut, acrylic templates. Her time-saving method of rotary
cutting several layers of fabric into customized shapes brought accuracy
and convenience to quilt makers.
Without sacrificing the beauty
of traditional designs, Shar teaches methods for accurately reproducing
ageless quilt patterns with ease and efficiency. Her step-by-step
instructions, based upon her own hands-on experience, take the mystique
out of quilting and ensure successful results. In addition to the
130 quilt programs she has taped for PBS, Shar is the author of
twelve books.
She has developed
over 40 template patterns and a full line of quilting stencils. She
exhibits and teaches at over
20 quilting events annually. Through filming, writing and teaching,
Shar continues to share her knowledge and love of the art with quilt
makers everywhere. Shar’s first fabric line was released to
stores in the fall of 2003 and it was called “Age of Innocence”.
She got the inspiration for this romantic collection of fabric from
postcards from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Her second
line of fabric “Summertime Journal” was released in
the fall of 2004.
Please be sure to stop by
the QOTY exhibit to say, “Hi” and
have your favorite “Quilting From the Heartland” book or
pattern autographed.
