Lectures

Thursday, 10:00am
T04AL: On With the Show
Susan Cleveland

In 1996, Susan gathered the courage to show a quilt in the prestigious MQ show. To her amazement, it received an award...and created a monster! To date, ten of her original pieces have received awards at MQ shows including two Best of Show Wall Quilt awards. Many of these quilts have also received prizes at AQS shows and International Quilt Festivals, appeared on TV and internet shows, and been published in magazines and books. Susan will share ridiculous stories involving her most treasured pieces and share tips about special details that make her quilts stand out. Don’t miss getting a close-up look at these award-winning pieces, learning some great tips and having a laugh or two, or three...

Thursday, Noon
T20NL: High Tech Meets High Touch
Barb Vlack

Watch Barb demonstrate the “magic” of designing a quilt with computer software. You don’t have to have any computer experience to be awed by the ease of creating designs that you probably wouldn’t draft on paper! Barb has become a practiced expert in using EQ6. She will bring her computer and a video projector to demonstrate how she creates quilts that go beyond the ordinary. Barb will also bring a trunk show of quilts she has made from designs she created with EQ software.
Disclaimer: Barb is not a sales representative for Electric Quilt, though she has written three books for The Electric Quilt Company and demonstrates as well as teaches for them at national conferences.

Thursday, 2:00pm
T23PL: Preparing Your Quilt for the Longarm Quilter
Carol Schwankl

Your quilt top is finished and now you want to have it quilted. Learn what you need to know to get your top ready to have it quilted on a longarm machine.

Friday, 10:00am
F05AL: Now What? Finishing School for Your Quilt
Kate Eelkema

You have finished creating your quilt top - now what? Join Kate as she shares great tips and hints for the finishing “Bs” - borders, batting, backing, basting, and binding. This is important information you don’t usually have time to learn in a quilt project class, but which can greatly improve the quality of your finished quilt.

Saturday, 10:00am
S13AL: Through The Judge’s Eyes
Anita Shackelford

With 22 years experience in competition and work on the
judging floor, Anita will give some insight into what judges look for when they examine a quilt. This is valuable information for those who want to judge and those who want to make award winning quilts.

Saturday, Noon
S22NL: The Red/Green Quilt Phenomenon! Minnesota Quilt Project

Join us as we explore the many factors that have influenced the popularity of red/green quilts from 1840-1860. Power Point presentation, as well as actual quilts from the period will be shared. Feel free to bring your own red/green treasures from this period to share.

Saturday, 2:00pm
S19PL: Wearable Art
Larkin Van Horn

Larkin loves to combine many techniques in her wearable art including dying, painting, beadwork, and using found items in her garments. In 2007, Larkin made her sixth appearance in the Bernina Fashion Show. Larkin will present a mini-fashion show with a few of her garments.
