Rules
- You may enter up to two (2) quilts by submitting the required entry form, photographs, and fees. NOTE: you may only enter one quilt per category, and the entrant is defined as the person who constructed the quilt top.
- Each quilt must have a 4" wide (finished) sleeve securely attached to the top back of the quilt and an identifying label attached to the bottom right corner of the back of the quilt. Directions on how to create a sleeve can be found on
page 17 or on the MQ website.
- Minnesota Quilters, Inc. 2008 Show faculty, sponsors, and judges are not eligible for this Judged Competition. In the case of a Two-Person quilt, a Faculty Member or sponsor may not enter a quilt, but may be represented. If one of these quilts wins a cash award, the Faculty Member or Sponsor will receive their ribbon, and the prize money will be donated to an approved charity of their choice.
- Minnesota Quilters, Inc., reserves the right to refuse to hang any quilt that exhibits poor quality construction, that has been misrepresented by the photograph, is soiled or stained, or does not adhere to the size restrictions, or has been entered in the Minnesota Quilters, Inc. judged show in the past.
- Minnesota Quilters, Inc., reserves the right to split or combine categories, depending on the number of entries.
- Quilts entered in incorrect categories will receive a written critique but will not be eligible for awards. Please read the category definitions carefully, and contact judge08@mnquilt.org if you have any questions.
- Each quilt entered must have three distinct layers (top, batting, backing), and must be quilted. No tied quilts. No kits. No rigid frames, rods, or mounting devices may accompany quilts. No rods may be sewn into the quilt sleeve. No incomplete entries will be accepted.
- The nonrefundable entry fee for each quilt entered is $15.00 (US funds) per entry form for Minnesota Quilters, Inc., members. The nonrefundable entry fee is $25.00 (US funds) per entry form for non-members. Payment may be made by check, credit card, or money order. Make check or money order payable to Minnesota Quilters, Inc. For entries from outside the United States, an international money order is required.
- All quilts entered in the Judged Competition must have been completed on or after January 1, 2006.
- If your quilt is machine quilted, you must indicate if the quilting was done on a home sewing machine (domestic) or a longarm quilting machine. If your quilt is hand quilted by another person, you must indicate who actually executed the hand quilting.
- Best Hand Quilting, Machine Quilting, and Longarm Quilting monetary awards and ribbon will be presented to the person who actually did the quilting.
- Two (2) 4"x6" color photographs are required for each entry. Unfinished quilts are not eligible. One photograph must be a full front view of the finished quilt, including binding. The second photograph must be a close-up of one area of the finished quilt. Label your photographs with the following information in permanent ink: top of image, name of entrant, title of quilt, full view or close-up view, year finished, size across top and top to bottom (width x length).
- Mail entries to Minnesota Quilters, Inc., 3000 University Avenue SE, Suite 120, Minneapolis, MN 55414. Please enclose a #10 envelope (9-1/2" x 4-1/4") that is self-addressed and stamped (58 cents) for notification and shipping information.
- Quilts that are not available for photography will not be accepted.
April 23, 2008, is the ENTRY DEADLINE.
