Judged Quilt Category Definitions
Please read the categories carefully. Placement in a category will be at the discretion of the judges and the Judged Show Committee.

Group Quilt: Quilts created by three or more people. They may be hand or machine pieced and hand or machine quilted.
- Two Person Quilt: Any quilt that two people worked on, in the construction or finishing in any way. This includes quilting done for hire. They may be hand or machine pieced and hand or machine quilted.
- One Person Quilt: Any quilt completed by only one person, including the piecing and quilting, work may have been done by machine or by hand.
- Masters Category: A quilt of any size that has been constructed by a person(s) who makes commissioned quilts for sale, has won a Best of Show in any category, or a monetary prize(s) at any national quilt show in the last 3 years. (MQ, IQA in Houston or Chicago, AQS in Paducah or Nashville, Quilter’s Heritage Celebration in Lancaster, Road to California, NQA in Ohio, Machine Quilter’s Showcase, etc) Because this is the only category that can be entered by these quilters, if they choose to enter 2 quilts they will both be placed in this category.
- Traditional Appliqué-One Person: Any quilt that is constructed and quilted completely by one person and contains any amount of hand appliqué. These quilts may be hand or machine quilted. Category will be divided between quilt and wall.
- Traditional-One or Two Person: Any quilt that is constructed using traditional techniques, including whole cloth. Category will be divided between quilt and wall (including miniature). This category can include mixed techniques using traditional methods. These quilts may be hand or machine pieced and machine or hand quilted.
- Non-Traditional-One or Two Person: Any quilt that is constructed with non-traditional techniques. Category will be divided between quilt and wall (including miniature). It may be either hand or machine pieced or hand or machine quilted. This category can include mixed techniques as long as one of the techniques is non-traditional (fused appliqué, raw edge appliqué, painting, embellishments, etc.)
- Art/Pictorial: Art quilts that are an original interpretation of a pattern, a scene or picture depicted in a realistic or abstract manner. Construction methods may be piecing, any type of appliqué, and with or without embellishment. This category will also include any abstract quilting and technique(s) that is not included in any other category.
