Special Exhibits

Several exciting quilt exhibits await your attention and enjoyment during the 2005 Stars in the Harbor Quilt Show and Conference! Be sure to take some time to enjoy these beautiful and educational quilts during your time in Duluth.

The Museum of the American Quilters’ Society traveling exhibit The Pilgrim/Roy Challenge Quilts 2006, includes 11 quilts made by quilt artists from around the country invited to submit a quilt using specific fabrics determined by Gerald Roy and honoring the quilting legacy of Paul Pilgrim. Pilgrim and Roy were among the first board members of the Quilt Appraisal Program of AQS and helped establish guidelines for that certification program.

International Machine Quilter’s Showcase presents the Oh, My Stars exhibit, a special collection of 14 quilts pieced and quilted by machine quilters from across the United States using the same basic design. The purpose of the exhibit is to show the differences resulting from the individual choices made by the machine quilter.

Quilts Along the Quiltmaker’s Journey is a selection of 46 quilts and original art work from the new book by Jeff Brumbeau and Gail DeMarcken. The Quiltmaker’s Journey is a prequel to the very popular The Quiltmaker’s Gift.

Always a favorite, 20 quilts from the 2004 Hoffman Challenge will be on display. These quilts were made using a bright butterfly wing fabric.

Women of Biblical Proportions is an art quilt exhibition depicting female characters of the Bible. The collection portrays the rich diversity of female biblical characters through contemporary art quilts. It tells the story of ancient women through modern artistic impression, highlighting modern quilt making as an art form. Viewers see a group of today’s established and emerging quilt artists.

Don’t miss the 2005 Stars in the Harbor Challenge quilt exhibit. View creative designs from the same basic fabrics, but, oh, what a difference imagination makes!

The 2005 Show Chairs invite you to submit a quilt, wallhanging or wearable art based on the show theme “Stars in the Harbor” Show Chairs Exhibit. Any kind of “Stars” may be used for your inspiration and the best use of theme can make you a star, too!

The MQ Board and the 2005 Show Committee are proud to announce Lynette Jensen as the recipient of the 8th Annual MQ Quilter of the Year award. This award was established to select a Minnesota quilter who has dedicated time and talent to the preservation and promotion of quilting, has made a significant impact on the quilt community, both locally and nationally, and has a collection of personal and professional quilted work.
