Quilt Categories

Please read the categories carefully. Placement in a category will be at the discretion of the judges and the Judged Show Committee.

• Group Quilt: Quilts created by three or more people. They may be hand or machine pieced or hand or machine quilted.
  
• Two Person Quilt: Any quilt that two people worked on in the construction or finishing in any way. This includes quilting done for hire. They may be hand or machine pieced or hand or machine quilted.
  
• The following categories must be designed and/or executed by one person. They may be hand or machine pieced or hand or machine quilted.
  
• Appliqué: Any quilt using any type of appliqué as the primary construction method.
  
• Traditional Pieced: Predominantly pieced quilts based on traditional style patterns and sets. Category will be divided into Wall and Large.
  
• Non-Traditional Pieced: Pieced or appliquéd quilts based on traditional style, but using original or different patterns or sets. Quilts in this category should reflect growth through tradition. Category will be divided into Wall and Large.
  
• Mixed Techniques: Quilts may be any size larger than miniature. They may be sewn by hand or machine. This category may include any quilt that does not fit into another category. Must include more than one technique.
  
• Miniature Quilt: Any quilt, any technique that measures less than 24 in. on any side. Quilts with overall patterns reflecting reduced scale and blocks no larger than 4" square.
  
• Pictorial: An art quilt that is an original interpretation of a scene or picture depicted in a realistic or abstract manner. Construction methods may be piecing, any type of appliqué, with or without embellishment.
  
• Wholecloth: Quilt made out of one or several large pieces of fabrics. Strippy quilts qualify as wholecloth.
