Minnesota Quilters offers two meetings each month, with the exceptions of December and June. The evening meetings moon are on the first Thursday of the month and begin at 7:00 p.m. The morning meetings sun are on the following Saturday and begin at 10:00 a.m. *Dates may vary if there is a conflict with a holiday.

All meetings are held at the St Lawrence Catholic Church & Newman Center unless otherwise noted.
Meetings are free for MQ members, $5 for non-members.

*Coffee and treats will now be served before each meeting to allow more time for socialization among our members. Coffee will be ready at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 9:30 am on Saturdays. Wear your name tags/membership cards so we can get to know each other. Meeting speakers may be subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control.

From now until October 1st we have the 2016 MQ ONLINE MYSTERY QUILT!

Join our 2016 Mystery Quilt and get a new clue emailed to you on the first day of the month from January to October.

Cost for Members is $30 and Nonmembers is $40, and you will receive page 1 and 2 (cover and fabric instructions) in your confirmation email. Starting January 1, at noon you will receive your first clue. The next clue will be emailed at noon on February 1 and so on.

Use your own fabric, use scraps or buy the kit that has been specially made by Crafty Planet in NE Minneapolis. Sign up at any time! If you sign up after January 1, your first clue will not be sent to you until Debra Svedberg is in the office on Tuesdays through Fridays. After that all emails will automatically be sent to you on the first of the month. Same goes for signing up any time later, when Debra is in the office you will receive all email clues so you will be caught up with everyone else. There is also a private facebook group you can join. When you register there will be a field to fill in if you wish to join.

We hope to see you at the annual Minnesota Quilters winter holiday tradition - our Holiday Brunch. The new 2016 Quilter Of The Year will be introduced. We will again be collecting handmade Christmas Stockings for St. Joseph's Home for Children in Minneapolis. Stocking stuffers are needed for the stockings, especially for teenagers. When you make your stocking donations, please make a list of the items along with your name and address so St. Joseph's can acknowledge your contribution. If you wish to write a check so St. Joseph's can buy more please make the check out to St. Joseph's, (not to MQ!). The pattern for the stocking is on our website here: Stocking Pattern

The Holiday Brunch Challenge this year is "Paint Chip Challenge". Paint chips can be picked up at the monthly social meetings, along with the directions. There are plans to have the projects from this challenge displayed at the 2016 show in St Cloud.

There will again be a quilt block exchange. The blocks are 12-1/2" x 12-1/2" unfinished, with a white or off-white background. Each quilter may contribute up to three blocks for the challenge. Use good quality cottons and submit only a block you would like to keep yourself. Applique blocks are welcome, but please know if you spend precious time on an applique block you may not receive an applique block in return. Prewash all fabrics.

Registration for the Brunch is $25 for members and all non-members are welcome at the cost of $30 each.

Valet parking is available this year and a small tip of $3 to $5 is requested. What a great treat this year to not have to walk through the cold snow and ice to the party! Parking is available for free in the parking lot to the west of the building. We will be on the 2nd floor and an elevator is available.

MQ's Annual Quilt Show & Conference KICK OFF! Come learn the details about the show and see class samples! Pre-registration for MQ members begins January 15th, 2016 and then opens for the public on February 1st, 2016. The Show website is and is updated as soon as we have new information.


February 4th (7 pm), 5th (workshop) and 6th (10 am), 2016

Minnesota's own Bonnie Lundorff from Bemidji will be our speaker at both meetings and have a workshop on Friday the 5th.

Thursday, Feb 4th, at 7 pm, Bonnie's lecture and trunk show will be about playing with wool, the different types of wool, how to prepare them and tools to use.

Friday, Feb 5th, 9 am to 4 pm, Bonnie's Workshop is "Wooly Patchwork Seasons". In this class you will learn the basics of working with wool and the different stitches used for added dimension. Class Fee for MQ Members is $40 and non-members is $50. There is also a $25 kit fee that is paid directly to Bonnie the day of the class. You can choose from one of the 5 kits below; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Snowy. Email invitation for registration will be sent out to members in December. If there are spots left after 1 week it will open to the public.

Saturday, Feb 6th, at 10 am Bonnie will lecture about new designs and what is going on at Willow Wood Market. She will also be vending. Come learn how to use wool and add to your quilting repertoire of techniques!

  2. Announcements are only for MQ business or quilt-related activities.
  3. Please do not make any announcements concerning selling personal items or private business promotion.  If you have something to sell or a business to promote you are welcome to put out flyers and business cards or put an ad in the MQ newsletter.

MQ Event Cancellation Notification Policy

In the case of inclement weather or other situation that may cause a cancellation of an MQ monthly membership meeting or sponsored event, the following will occur:

• A posting will be made on the MQ website and on Facebook

• A recorded message will be on the MQ office phone

• An email blast will be sent to all members

• Time-permitting, KSTP TV and WCCO TV and radio stations will be contacted

• If a cancellation is pending; the MQ website will indicate at what time a decision will be made/posted
