About Minnesota Quilters

Updated April 16, 2008

The mission of Minnesota Quilters, Inc. is to further the preservation of quilting, to educate, and to document the art and craft of quilting in Minnesota.

Minnesota Quilters, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Minnesota Quilters was formed and incorporated in 1978 as a non-profit organization to promote quilting in the state of Minnesota. This event coincided with the renewed interest in quilting that was generated by the U.S. Bicentennial.

The charter members were 23 women with varied quilting experience and backgrounds. From that modest beginning, Minnesota Quilters has grown to an organization with approximately 1300 members.

The first MQ quilt show was held in St. Paul, Minnesota in January, 1979. The annual Minnesota Quilters’ Show and Conference is now one of the premier annual quilting events in the United States that draws visitors, faculty, and entries from around the world. It is the largest all-volunteer quilt show in the U.S.
